Berkshire Hogs

The Berkshire is a heritage hog breed originating from the ‘shire of Berks’, United Kingdom. Although being known as one of the oldest breeds and the first to record pedigree, they fell out of favor during World War II when families began to limit their lard usage. Berkshires are known for their fat production and high marble content. In 2008, there were less than 300 known breeding sows. Since then, they have seen new interest from smaller, hobby farms due to their size and demeanor.

The friendly breed is known for its heavily marbled, delicious pork. In fact, it has been coined the ‘wagyu of pork’ due to its flavor and tenderness. Our Berkshires are raised on and rotated through pasture paddocks. After each rotation, we plant vegetable crops into the freshly fertilized and tilled soil leveraging the natural nutrients left behind by the hogs.
